Career in Information Technology

It is an excellent time to pursue a career in Information Technology. As our technologies and systems become better and more complex, the need for people who understand and can operate these tools is ever important. Information Technology, or IT, also cited as Information Service (IS) or Management Information Service (MIS), can be defined as the development, design, study, implementation and management of computer related information.

Career options can range from a business intelligence analyst to a database administrator. There is always a need for companies to have an educated and trained Information Technology professional on site at all times. When problems arise related to internet connections, phone lines, computer maintenance, network systems, or software and database issues, an IT whiz is of extreme value. Beyond being a Network Manager, Information Technology students can also go on to have very lucrative positions doing Applications Development and Architecture, Messaging Administration, Data Modeling and IT Auditing.

Employment of database administrators (DBAs) is projected to grow 31 percent from 2010 to 2020, much faster than the average for all occupations. Rapid growth in data collection by businesses will contribute to the growth of this occupation. Database administrators will be needed to organize and present data in a way that makes it easy for analysts and other stakeholders to understand. Additional job growth will occur as database security needs grow and as DBAs are called on to implement information security measures.*
