Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, the oldest technological university in the English-speaking world*, founded in 1824, is located in Troy, New York. The school consists of five sub-schools: the schools of Architecture, Engineering, Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, Science, and the Lally School of Management & Technology. They offer Bachelor, Master, and Doctorate programs in 60 different fields. The school has a total of 140 degree programs. Most importantly, the school is known for being one of the few polytechnic schools in the nation that focused teaching technical arts and applied sciences.

Getting to school

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's deadline to apply is Jan 15, but it is advisable to send in an early application by Nov 15. The school is among the most selective with an acceptance rate of 43%, but offers a wide range of scholarships and grants that amount to $15000 a year. Around 90% of the student receives either need-based aid or merit-based aid.

Academic life

The school has a ratio of 15 students per one faculty, and about 50% of the classes have 20 students or fewer. Since the school offers such a wide range of degrees and programs, it is hard to pin point which ones are more popular than the others. Some of the more common degree programs among the students include: Engineering, Computer and Information Sciences and Support Services, Biological and Biomedical Sciences, Business, Management, Marketing, and Related Support Services, and Physical Sciences*.

Student life

There are about 5000 undergraduates in the school. 70% are male, and 30% are female. Among all of the students, about 57% live on campus. In addition to many clubs and social organizations in the school, they also have something called the "First-Year Experience", which includes events and gathering that helps freshmen with information and navigating around campus.

There are also student services such as tutoring and health services. With such a large campus, there are securities and escort services to increase safety.

The school is a located in a perfect location for nature lovers. Standing proudly on a hillside overlooking the Hudson River. The school boasts 275 acres of land. There is a historic city at the base of the hill that students can visit. The city has a perfect blend of both modern and traditional architecture, and for a school that is ranked high on architecture, it is something to consider.
